Hesitation changing into 2nd gear
Hi, and happy new year to everyone!
I have yet another problem with the little nc, When i take it right up to 14.5k in 1st, as i change into 2nd there is a hesitation and the revs drop more than usual. It's fine when i'm cruising because i obviously don't thrash it and change gear nice and slowly, it only happens when i thrash it. changing into other gears seems fine so i can't think what it could be!?
Any ideas or suggestions will be very much appreciated as always.
Cheers!

Don't thrash it to 14.5 in first and expect as nice a shift as the others..you have to go through neutral..
simple fix is to ride round it and have some mechanical sympathy for the poor old moto!
Most bikes tend to kill 2nd gear and I would surmise it is due to trying to crack it at high revs from first.

could also be your plane plates are warped or burred on the edges, which usually slows shifting as they snag when the clutch is releasing, if its really getting bad you can take the clutch off and file the burred edges of the plane plates if they arent too warped, should improve shifts and reduce clutch drag

check your chain tension, i've had it a few times when i've been racing, and had to use the clutch to go to second instead of just kicking it up a gear, but once i've sorted the tension it seemed ok

Yeah, tightening the chain was the first thing i did coz that did make it worse but after tightening it it still does it. As for using the clutch thats what i do now, just keep the throttle wide open and change up slipping the clutch, bit like a quickshifter.Simon_Ed wrote:check your chain tension, i've had it a few times when i've been racing, and had to use the clutch to go to second instead of just kicking it up a gear, but once i've sorted the tension it seemed ok
