rs250 cup shock fitting
ok iv been offered a good condition rs250 cup shock for £100, being a cup shock its got the ride height adjustment, my question is will i be able to get to this adjuster at while its fitted to the bike ie will the swingarm be in the way?
also aparently the shock has 8mm worth of adjustment, how much would this jack the back end up? is it worth getting an rvf linkage at the same time (especially if i plan to get an 18in wheel in the future)?

Re: rs250 cup shock fitting
That seems a pretty steep price (or maybe they're just worth peanuts over this side of the pond?).
I've owned several but never fitted any of them (better options came my way at the time, and they're not legal for Aus race bikes), from memory you won't be able to get to the ride height adjustor when it's fitted. This isn't a problem since once set you won't need to touch it.
8mm of adjustment will equal a 28mm range at the rear. At its max length this would work pretty well in an nc30, if anything you could drop the forks a little (e.g. 5mm) to make it a bit more agressive.
Don't forget to get yourself a decent spring for it.

Re: rs250 cup shock fitting
Why would you want an 18" wheel with the ride height and dog bones?
I thought thsat all 1997 face lift onwards RS250 were ride height adjustable. I also though the ride height adjustment is sat on the top of the shock so it way clear of the swingarm.

The ride height adjustor is at the bottom of the shock.

its not that i want it, its that i dont have the money for a 17 yet, i was just wondering if the shock would jake it up enough alone
dw i found this very helpful site that shows one being fitted and you can get to the adjuster
http://hondarvf.com/workshop/modificati ... dification" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
i thought it was just the cup shocks that had adjustable ride height, so do you recon £100 for a good condition one is a bit steep? one went for £90 on ebay the other day with ride height adjustment but he didnt mention it in the listing so i doubt many people knew, hence i thought it was an alright price

Re: rs250 cup shock fitting
Seeing as you will have to get the shock rebuilt then factor that into the purchase price.
I paid £50 for mine..with another £90 on top to get it serviced and setup for my fat ass. I also bought a new spring to suit for £50 or so. So just about £190 for a shock that is not even new. Saying that - it has made the most difference to my bike of any of the mods and I would do it again tomorrow...
So..your £100 shock still needs a rebuild as the bikes are different and you will blow the seals on it. you will prob need a spring...depends on your weight.
So, you are looking at £240+ for a second hand shock...for that money you are close to affording a Nitron or Maxton etc..
I would not pay any more for an RS250 shock than £50 - ride height adjustable or not.. Are you honestly ever going to change the ride height once it is on?

Re: rs250 cup shock fitting
ok, well im under 11 stone in full riding gear and was planning to put the nc30 spring on the 250 shock but i see your point, it is getting expensive
right then im on the look out for an rs250 shock, preferable with ride height adjustment for around £50, anyone got one?

Re: rs250 cup shock fitting
the ones without ride height adjustment are still over 10mm longer than std... the adjuster is a trinket that makes no odds.
A good place to look is rgv250.co.uk - lots of Aprilia riders getting rid of their shocks to upgrade
