HELP cbr400rr nc23 triarm oil and water on the floor
Hi again, got the engine in, rebuilt the carbs found the fuel pump and fuel cut off faulty so tank straight to carbs and
running..... for about 30 seconds then put the oil in the coolant and spat it out the overflow tank all over the floor
any help in regards if the oil coolers are a common fault for this or water pump seals or head gasket ? Any help is greatly appreciated
Thank alex

Re: HELP cbr400rr nc23 triarm oil and water on the floor
Took the filler cap off and full of oil/water guessing maybe the oil cooler because of how fast it filled up the expansion tank and spat it out ? Or poss water pump main seal hopefully not head gasket. Would the head gasket put that much oil if any in the system so fast ? Or would it just pressurise the cooling system ?
Thanks again alex

Its unlikely to be a headgasket as they usually go the other way and dump the water in the oil not the other way around, can you get hold of a coolant system pressure tester? pressurize the cooling system and it should be fairly obvious where the leak is coming from, did you check the oil level on the new engine before installing it? as if there's too much oil in the system it will over pressurize and blow out of anywhere it can! this is quite common with faulty float valves in carbs they don't seal and dump a load of fuel into the engine raising up the oil level then when you start it up it will find the weakest point in the system and blow through any available orifice it can!Vengy1 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 7:32 pmTook the filler cap off and full of oil/water guessing maybe the oil cooler because of how fast it filled up the expansion tank and spat it out ? Thank you for the reply it’s greatly appreciated
Unfortunately no pressure testing equipment but the oil was fresh and just under the upper limt. I’ve got a oil cooler and water pump off the other engine so gonna try those there was no leaking out the water pump hole between the 2 seal tho. The bikes stripped and drained and getting ready to b flushed out then try again with more oil, coolant n a filter lol thanks Alex
But it did run and sounded naughty

To be fair there's not many places oil can get into the cooling system so shouldn't be to difficult to sort out
Keep us posted how you get on

Re: HELP cbr400rr nc23 triarm oil and water on the floor
Thermostat stuck closed which explains the expansion tank gushing fluids out so removed for now to get running. Flushed out the rad, water jacket and all hoses fitted the other oil cooler and water pump which cosmetically look in much better fettle but still a fingers crossed job lol. The sumps been off again and cleaned. So new oil filter, oil and coolant in the morning and a seal change on 1 carb and give it another go and everything crossed it keeps all the fluids separate and runs sweet ! Thanks for all the help so far it’s very much appreciate and I’ll post again if it behaves or otherwise
