Will a Nc23 engine from a later nc29 work on earlier bike
I’ve got a later nc29 engine not sure of exact year and a cbr400rr hurricane which has destroyed its engine. Will the later engine work on the carbs and electrics of the earlier bike ? Any help is greatly appreciated

Think the engine mounts are different if memory serves me correct,
best bet would be to sell the NC29 as there still worth a few quid and pick yourself up an NC23 motor (sure there's one for sale in the for sale section on here)

Thanks for the reply
Found the engine no. Reference in the Haynes manual and it would appear I have another j series engine which should just bolt straight in and not a nc29 engine. The silver cases instead of gold put me off as I didn’t have a engine number reference. Thanks for the help tho

No worries mate,
Easiest way to tell is the NC23 engines have fins on the crank cases where as the NC29 engines have a smooth crank case.

The cases r also finned
All the mounts line up and the engines just been cleaned for putting in but the integrity of said engine is unknown as of yet so fingers crossed
lol it turns over with compression and its got oil in it that isn’t emulsified which means nothing lol

Also the NC23 has a water outlet on the back of the cylinders going to the water pump where as the NC 29 has the outlet on the front of the cylinders

The engine is in
Thanks to everyone who replied it was appreciated greatly ! The key has been put away ‘safe’ 🤬 is there a way of bridging the pins in the ignition connector to get the ignition on please ? As I don’t want to ruin the ignition as it’s original and the key will turn up the second I screwdriver it
Thanks Alex

If you disconnect the ignition barrel you you can make up a bridging wire to sit in the connector from the loom. You need to bridge the red & red/black wires. Make sure you use wire that is the same gauge or thicker than the red wire and just use some crimp electrical connectors from Halfords or the like.
