I now wish i had a big bag of shims!

to confirm ref 2 - are we all as happy as we can be i havent trashed anything. The other post seemed to imply it was the end of the world as we know it.

It's taken me 15 years to get these shims.. :)

I reckon you'll be fine - the turning it over and the finger getting a bit stuck on the collet is not great, but I cannot see if breaking anything.
get it back and measured up and see what goes on for your gaps.

If you find you need some specific sizes and are stuck - I'll swap some with you

Thanks - I did have a list of 5 shims I needed, but those are irrelevant now as I measured the wrong gap!

Re the turning the engine over - that was my thinking - shouldn't have done it, however nothing should really be damaged and all I need to do now, is put all 16 shims back in and start again :o

Started checking my clearances today, taking my time and taking a long time.

When replacing the shim, after measuring, I found that zip tying the cam follower to the opposite cam bearing tower held the follower out of the way, so I had two hands to reinstall the shim.

Just my 2c.
