Instrument change
I have a CB400sf Project Big! 1993 model.
I had to change the speedo and tacho because they were badly damaged.
I fitted an Acewell unoit and the speedo and everything seems to work really well but the engine wont rev over 6000 or 65000 rpm.
Any idea which wire I need to connect to what to make the engine rev.
The local dealer looked at me in a way that reminded me of a lost puppy.
Many thanks

Re: Instrument change
this is because of the speed restrictor circuit not being complete... i believe you need a 2k resistor to sort this (pretty sure theres a thread on teh forum about it) other ways to sort it are the derestricted cdi's from ebay. (i got one recently they work fine) if i find where i read about the resistor ill link it for ya.

Re: Instrument change
wirewise.. the ones that went to the speed restrictor were (at least on mine)
1: orange and blue, 2:brown and black
resistor mod had to be put between those two, basically to fool the damn cdi into thinking u havent unplugged it ,
(reason for this is it goes into safe mode making bike run shite so that u couldnt just unplug for a easy derestrict)
sorry if this is coming in bits and bats.. i post summat then think.. ahh i shoulda told him this.
i believe the pages with rvf400's etc have alot of convos about this subject as they make track bikes and have to do this mod when they remove original speedos... worth cheking out those threads on the forum bud.
regards andy.

Re: Instrument change
i have DIY instructions on how to make/fit this to CB400s.. at the moment i can only 100% say it works on 2 years 1995 and 1997. as my knowledge with CBs is limited so all i know this kit can work on other years?
this issue is one that CBRs and VFRs suffer from... to which i again have instructions for.
for the really lazy person i do sell a de-limiter kit that already has the correct resistor soldered and sealed, all you do is crimp on the female crimps and fit it using the instructions.
