Tools for the NC30

Hi Chaps,

I'm a complete newbie to bikes, but I've just got an NC30 and am loving it.
I need to kit myself out with some tools so that I can work on the bike (thanks to Declan for the pointers), but what would you guys suggest as the perfect NC30 toolkit?

first thing to get if you don't already have one is a tool set that consists of ratchets,spanners sockets etc.

but for the nc30 specifically you will need to get yourself a 36mm socket for the rear wheel nut,24mm socket for the front axle bolt,41mm socket for the steering stem nut(top yoke centre)

if you ever want to remove the rear hub you will need a 46mm socket,circlip pliers.

i would also recommend buying yourself a torque wrench and a breaker bar.....

there is plenty more but this is a good start.....

I'll be asking Santa for a socket set then!

I used to work in the Halfords cycle dept when I was a young' un and we used to use the Facom tools they used to sell, I might try and get some more of their stuff it seemed good quality.

Well as with most bikes you will want a good range of ring spanners, I have 5mm to 21mm in 1mm increments but a range covering 8,10,12,13,14,15,17mm is usually a good start. Match these with sockets of the same size, and also deep reach varieties. Extension bars, breaker bar and torque wrench are worthwhile.

I have also a limited range of ratchet spanners, excellent tools but very costly. I use them a lot so it pays.

A couple of x-head and posi drive and flat blade screwdrivers of various had sizes and lengths will help.You may also benefit from torx sockets.

Pliers, snips,soft faced hammers, junior hacksaw,circlip plers,vernier calipers,micrometer, feeler gauges and other such gadgetry all have a place in my fettling shop.

Servicing tools like oil filter removers, clutch holders/plate removers, fly wheel pullers, voltmeters are a good one too.

NC30 specific to my knowledge so far is a 46mm socket, a 36mm socket, a swingarm/engine socket and a real must is the eccentric hub/chain adjustment tool, a pin spanner.

There is probably many many more that you may encounter the need for at some point. It just depends on how much you want to do yourself and your confidence. Personally, I like to do as much as I can.

yeah definately worth while getting the adjuster tool.........usually adjusting the chain with anything other than the proper tool results in the notches in the bearer holder getting chewed up and mangled

also worth while getting a plug spanner specifically for the nc30 or a deep 13mm socket......

and something that is useful for any vehicles and hopefully something you will not need much....unlike me,"multimeter"!!!!!
