Just like this (NC35 carbs shown)

Basically you want to tilt the carbs until the initial weight of the float is just taken up but not the full weight.

the haynes service and repair manual...........
chapter 4 fuel and exhaust system,section 10 is carburettors reassembly and float height check........
then on the next page,4.12....it explains how to check the float height and adjust.

he did say he downloaded the workshop manual which may and probably will be different
i did however previously ask if he had the haynes manual.............

pretty sure i stated workshop manual, and that seeing as the bikes going to be a keeper, at some stage i'll need to get myself a haynes manual, so, thanks for the advice boys and girls, tomorrow afternoon back into the fray of cleaning carbs and getting float levels right. Have a set of o-rings for the float bowles but they won't be ready till monday so won't be shutting the carbs up just yet, current o-rings look flat as a tack, i'll wager they're the original ones that came with the bike.

The Genuine Honda Workshop manual, same as dumbaldore. ^_^
Carb adjustment is detailed in one of the general honda service manuals, can't remember which one off the top of my head.

Hurray,
Bikes going,
took 9 hours total work to clean the filthiest carbs i've ever seen.
Now for the issues....
Bike started almost first turn, however, the idle oscilates between 1300-1600rpm, doesn't settle down, revs to 6000rpm smooth as a kitten, but misfires very badly after that and doesn't rev past 7k.
Last bit of info, i only wanted to see if it would start so didn't replace the air box just the petrol tank,
when i use surptisious amounts of choke whilest reving the bike i can get it up to 14,000 rpm, ever so brielfy.
So.. am i right, is it just because i haven't replaced the airbox as of yet?
Are the carbs out of tune?
do i need to adjust the pilot screws?
Or.. do i just need to flog the shit out of it seeing as this is the first time the bikes been started in 2 years?

first thing you need to do is replace the airbox and filter,these engines will not run correctly
without them.then you need to check mixure screws are set,then( ballance the carbs)
there is no point in going any further with it, until you have done this.

put the filter etc back on and see how it goes after that.......
