NC 30 indicators

Post by socket13 »

in the final stages of getting my NC30 back on the road, purchased 4 indicators from Wemoto, quality and fit are very good problem is when i push the indicator switch in either direction, nothing happens for about 10 seconds, then the relay starts clicking but the indicators are still not flashing, wait another 10 seconds and they flash normally, if i press cancel and go for the other indicator its still the same delay. Any advice gratefully received!

If the relay has not been used for some time it may have become "lazy". Repeated use could/should improve its performance. IMHO, if the relay function is based on initially closed contact current flow, the contact surface can become lightly resistive with little use, limiting current flow and thus delaying start up. More use "burns off" off resistive surface and thus removes the delay.

Hi Magg, thanks for your prompt response, in a knee jerk reaction i ordered a new relay hoping that would cure it, it didnt. Upon closer inspection i noticed the bulbs in my new indicators were only 10 watt, the spec on the new relay calls for 2 x 23watt,so i have 4 on order and i'm hoping that sorts it, once again thanks for your help, i will keep you posted on the out come ( good or bad !!)

Yes, incorrect wattage bulbs will also affect the functionality, odd that new indicators for an NC30 would be supplied with 10W bulbs.

So, new bulbs arrived and fitted still no better,if i slide the button in either direction nothing happens,if i leave it for approx 10 seconds the relay starts to click, after about another 10 seconds the indicators flash perfectly, change direction the same time delay before they flash, if i continue to change direction for about 10 minutes the time delay gets shorter, to a point where they are working perfect, if i switch off and come back to it a little later it goes back to the 20 second delay,i have tried the old relay(same result) i have tried rigging a separate earth wire from the relay to a good earth( even back to the battery) with no improvement, next im going to try another relay which i know to be good.

Had a final thought before going to the trouble of removing the flasher relay off the SP1,when i first got the bike a couple of years ago it had stood in a garage workshop for about 2 years, covered in crap, when i put a battery on, all the lights worked( the indicators were gone) i gave all the switches a squirt of WD40 to free them up, but didnt do the indicator switch(clue to whats coming next!) so i have just give them a real blast of WD to see if it would do anything, result? indicators work perfectly! one happy bunny! thanks to Mag for your input!
