CBR400RR NC23 1989-No start, please help!

Post by Astandane »

Hi guys,

New here and have recently purchased the titled bike from a cousin. Ran really well on way home but now have issues!

Not my cousins fault mind you. However, I removed the tank and air box to have a poke around. Didn't remove anything serious and replaced everything I removed; air box breather hose, fuel tap hose and tank etc. Now, the bike turns over fine, but just won't fire. Fuel tap is ON. I was getting puffs of white vapour from exhaust and occasionally a backfire.

Removed spark plugs, there were a little black. Smelt fuely. Brushed up and replaced. No better. Was getting a spark at least on cylinder 4, didn't check rest. Replaced with new iridiums. Coils connected correctly.

Still won't start and I'm at a loss! I left the plugs out over night previously with battery on charge but to no avail. Now I'm here! Please help as I'm desperate to ride :(

Did you put the vacuum feed back on the fuel tap? There should be a fuel line out and a smaller vacuum hose on there somewhere, without that you won't get any fuel through.

Just to add to tanuki's post, left coil = 1+4, right coil = 2+3.

Also be sure the battery is good as they can be a pain if they are even a little under powered. Further things which may have a bearing especially if its not been used a lot would be carbs and rectifier.

My money's on the reg/rec being toasted.

Try replacing that for starters and let us know how you get on.
