Front discs

NC29.I just measured my front discs (accurately) 1 measures 2.5mm and the other 2.89mm,I'm guessing they are naffed but what is the recommended wear limit?They have a large lip either side of the pads...
BTW is there a recommended place to purchase these?...new of course.Thanks...

Yep they are thin for sure, minimum thickness is 3.5mm, its stamped on the discs.

wow really....I need to check my discs width as well.

I have a question that needs to be answered PLEASE! My new brake pads at the front are touching the disc slightly.

Is there anyway I can create a slightly bigger gap between the discs and the pads as I feel they maybe touching too much....

Rebuild your brakes and master cylinder with new seals and fluid. Or a good clean with brake cleaner might help?

Good advise from dunkenb but there could be another reason. Sometimes with aftermarket brake levers there is a slight mismatch and the part that touches the master cylinder plunger keeps the brake slightly on. This is mentioned elsware in the forum and indeed many moons ago it happened to me. So if you have a aftermarket lever it could be the cause.

Edit: to add, i solved the problem at the time by using the original part i had off the oem lever, this stopped the over heating. I now use a full oem lever.

What ever the reason be careful as over heating brakes could bind the brakes throwing you off or maybe boil the fluid failing to brake at all.

Considering they are new pads they dont seem to bad, maybe bed them in for few days and see what they are like. They dont appear to be binding. In quiet moments on an empty dry road, maybe do a few sharp controlled stops. I would also be checking for warm disks on normal rides. If they are over heating it will be obvious as they shouldnt get too warm in this weather. Watch your fingers dont get burned though :) Just as a rough guide, I checked mine today after a three mile commuter ride with average traffic light braking and the disks were luke warm to cold seconds after stopping the bike.

I think the scrapping you can hear is just because the pads are new and flat they just need to bed in following the ridges and bumps in your disks.

Try cleaning the surface of the discs with wire wool to remove any rust that may have built up on the surface, then spin the wheel and see if it has made a difference

Fed up with mechanics....they charge so much and I've had a bad experience with one mechanic. He dropped my NC29 by mistake and didnt pay all the money back to fix my fairings....so I've decided i'm going to fix the bike myself from now onwards.

I've done well so far. I've changed the rear and front brake pads, changed the air filter, changed all four spark plugs, changed my left hand side switch as the previous switch had a loose connection on the high and low beam.

Next I need to know how to do an engine rebuild, but I think I will buy a seperate NC29 engine and learn on that. Rather than taking off the engine on my bike for now.

These F mechanics charge soo much money and dont even do a good job in London.

I will take your advice about the front brake pads....I'm keen to learn so thanks for the info.

I measured the front discs and the thickness with a ruler was about 4 to 4.5mm, so I think thickness is ok.
I will check to see if the discs become hot/warm after a short ride.

I will get a wire wool and lightly rub it onto the discs and see if it makes a difference...Thanks for the info
