Rvf400 charging system ?
Hi, good evening,
I'll try keep this story as short as possible, but I'm very desperate for help I have trying to fix my Rvf400 for bout a year and still wouldn't be able to fully get it done.
So basically last year early 2015 I bought the rvf, it wasnt starting properly but the previous owner said it was just the battery and I trusted him and bought it and rode home it died 4times.
I'm often extremely busy so I can hardly get time to fix it, so everything has been slowly progressing up to now, I'm about to give up, over the year I have started by changing new battery, then new regulator then eventually new generator/stator, and bought another battery... it's still not starting.
So tonight as I was finishing off putting a fully charged battery to the bike before I connected my rear wires (indicators, plate light) I gave it a start it was strong and start first go, light were all bright.
So I proceed to assemble everything and finally it's all done, I switch on the key lights were dim (dash and headlight, back to the first time I bought the bike) I try to start it, engine turned a bit and gone only buzzing starting sound left battery gone. So the conclusion after everything it's still not starting, I have push started it numerous time over the past 2years bike runs fine it just won't charge.
I'm lost I really can't think of anymore ways to fix it, would anyone be able to give me some more suggestions?
For tonight the only thing I did wrong was when tightening the bolt of the battery, there were lots(lots) of sparkles coz my metal screw driver was touching the frame while I'm on the positive. (Would it a reason?)

That sounds like you have a short to earth in the rear wiring. Try disconnecting the various bits and pieces again and see if the lights are bright. If they are then connect things one at a time and see which one causes them to go dim.
Good practice is to always disconnect the negative first, or connect it last. Then there's no chance of sparks when working on the positive
