Clutch borked
Damnit.
The clutch on my RVF has been getting heavier and heavier, with increasingly less feel.
Then today it refused to disengage fully, so no neutral for me at traffic lights.
Booked in with my tame mechanic for next week. He's says he's seen something similar before - where the shaft of the lever arm becomes displaced or the bearings there-in borked. He's confident he can fix it.
Ah well, it was due a service anyhoo. :) Only done 10,000Km on it this year.

Re: Clutch borked
Manic, regarding your 'tame mechanic', is there any chance you could give me his details? My RVF could also do with a service and I want someone who knows these bikes, and Rossendale is only up the road.

Re: Clutch borked
Yup. Noel at Fourways in Edenfield. 01706 216128
I recommend with no reservation.
I say no reservation - they have a *massive* dog, but the wuff is friendly.
Sometimes the work can take longer than anticipated - but their charges are still very reasonable. Mark (Noel's sidekick) stripped my RVF down completely last year - greased all bearings (hub, swingarm etc), did the valves, fork oil and seals, adjust carbs, oil, filters, plugs, for £250
I use them without hesitation. I used to take my R1 there. Noel is very knowledgeable and very honest.

Re: Clutch borked
hi, there was a recent post about this with another rvf, turned out to be cable adjustment, check adjusters at both ends of cable

Thanks Manic, sounds good, very reasonable price that.
That post (above) from Barry1234 was about my clutch problem (unless anyone else can claim it). Yes, it turned out to be a simple cable adjustment..but I'm sure you've thought of that

Re: Clutch borked
Yeah. I'm kinda hoping that that is all it is, and in which case I'm happy to look foolish. I left the bike with them last week and told them "no hurry" (I've got my MV Agusta to play with #FirstWorldProblems). I'll phone them tomorrow and see. I had replaced the cable thinking it was a tight cable and adjusted it, I thought, properly. We'll see.
If you drive up there, drop me a DM, I live maybe 2 miles away. Free coffee. :)

Re: Clutch borked
Got the bike fixed. A pair of needle roller bearing had collapsed in the clutch case - and the bearings are sold as part of th case - and the case is now unavailable.
So Noel went to the local bearing factor and got a pair made up. :8
Job done.

Re: Clutch borked
Collected the bike. Clutch is now sorted. Feels better than it ever did! Makes me wonder how long it has been going for.
Total cost for clutch fix, 10k km service £145
Im happy with that.
