I picked up the VFR750 today, lucked out on the gap in the clouds and brought her home the 150 miles in (mostly) bright suinshine!

She's a bit scruffy round the edges but nothing serious. The riding position is further forward than I'd like, as it made my neck and back ache... BUT:

She's awesome to ride! She feels light, well balanced and the torque from the V4 is sublime! I'm going to have to be careful... I was cruising along at one point thinking to myself, she cruises lovely at 80mph; then I looked down to see the needle just nudging the 100! Oops! She's fast, but without any fuss or drama so it doesn't feel it. I think she was pulling around 6,000 rpm at a ton, rather than the 10,000 that the SF would have been!

So I reckon some bar risers and a new rear tyre and she'll be a good 'un. :D

Ah, wise words mate! If only I had...

I was showing off the VFR to a work mate this afternoon, and noticed a small pool of fluid on the front wheel. On closer inspection, it turns out that the braided hose banjo on the RH caliper is weeping brake fluid

I gently rode home, figuring that nothing dramatic was likely to happen, especially if I braked as little as possible and all was indeed fine.

That is, until I pulled up outside my gaff 35 minutes later. A rather large pool of coolant suddenly appeared under the engine. When I moved the bike to the front garden, another pool appeared.

I've got a horrible feeling that I've sold my trusted and reliable (and fun) 400 and bought a lardy lazy pile of sh1t instead... At least the brake fluid leak is an easy fix. God knows where the coolant's coming from though.

Anyone wanna buy a VFR750? One careful owner (several not-so-careful owners...)

Hey Alex,

There are bound to be teething troubles. have a look and see if there are any split or leaking hoses etc.

With the brake banjo, you might be able to nip the bolt up a bit, failing that it should just need a new brass washer.


The 750 is a cracking bike, it sounds like yours just needs some tlc!

Aye, thanks for the advice Matchlessman.

I've replaced the copper washers either side of the banjo fitting, and the brakes are now sorted. :D

I had a look under the fairing at the cooling system and the expansion tank has been over-filled, so I'm hoping that's the cause of the sudden coolant loss. There's no sign of any leaks from anywhere else. It's been suggested that I replace the radiator pressure cap, which I'm considering. I just need to find one that's cheaper than the OEM one at £20 from David Silver
