NC24 Ignition Box or Pick ups?
Hi There everyone, So im not getting any spark on my rear plug wires (lol sorry im not too clued up with technical names, im a newbie), when checking if there is any power coming from the ignition box to the rear coils i find none (theres only only power going to the two front coils wires). My question is- is the ignition box faulty or perhaps my pick ups on the right hand side engine cover? Ive recently taken the side engine cover off so maybe have disturbed those pickups. your help would be appreciated. thanks and kind regards

Could be both, could be neither.
You have to test them properly.
Was the bike working before you messed with it? When did it go bad?
The NC24 has separate pickups for the front and rear coils.
You can use a multimeter to check the pickup coils have resistance in them, both coils should have roughly the same resistance, I cant remember the valuve off hand but a few hundred ohms perhaps.

Re: NC24 Ignition Box or Pick ups?
You need to confine you question to one post not multiple. As I said in your other post.
Power to the ignition coils does not come from the ignition control unit. It is fed directly from the stop/run switch. If you have power at the front coils you should have power at the rear coils unless the wiring is faulty. A wiring diagram for an NC24 would probably be of some assistance.

Re: NC24 Ignition Box or Pick ups?
Thanks for the response guys and apologies for double posts, was out of desperation.. I managed to get the rear plugs to spark, found a break in the Black with white stripe wire leading to the two rear coils. now i cant get the bike to start
and the weird thing is i got it to run on front two sparking 2 cylinders the day before. This all started when i changed valves, lapped them, made sure they weren't leaking before putting the heads back, timing is all right, got compression.pulse pickups giving me 370 and 380 ohms at about 5 degrees. fuel getting to the heads, connected up a car battery to ensure power., plug gaps right.the only thing left to try i believe is replacing the spark plugs maybe?? They so expensive here in SA so was hesitant. I even tried to tow the bike with a tow rope to try get it started up(a bit hillbilly i know lol), but is sounds like no spark is hitting the pistons, but there is spark when i have the plugs out. as if its sparking to the body and not the pistons. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks guys

With all the spark plugs removed from their cylinders and resting on the rocker covers, do you get reliable sparking for all plugs?

Re: NC24 Ignition Box or Pick ups?
Hi there, yes i have tried that and when the thread of the spark plugs are resting on the cover it sends spark to the gap of the spark plugs. To me it seems that the spark out the plugs should be sufficient to fire up the engine, so does my father (who is fairly jacked up with cars), however it doesn't. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks so much.

When you took the plugs out were they wet with fuel or dry.

They were all wet. My carb screws are set to 2 turns out as well. This bike is really getting me down

Why did you need to change the valves? Perhaps you now have a flooded engine from the cranking without ignition. Carby cleaner should dry the plugs out. Crank the engine with plugs removed and stop/run in stop, to purge fuel from the combustion chambers. Insert plugs and try again.

Re: NC24 Ignition Box or Pick ups?
Thanks for your advice Magg, will give it a go again. I did try blow out the cylinders with a compressor and thought towing the bike with no throttle could have helped, but no avail. Initially i had low compression and the bike wasnt starting in the mornings. The inlets valves were very warn and very sharp on the edges, the exhaust valves weren't bad..
Just to clarify, the two wires going to each coil, i read on here that it doesnt REALLY matter which way they go on the coil; ive set the color wires (red with yellow stripe, etc) on each side of the coil where there is like a greeny/blue lip and the black with with stripe wires on the other side, is this fine? hope that makes sense
