there is a few ways of doing it.........
do you have a chain splitter/rivet tool?
this makes the job a lot easier and in the end makes a better safer job of it.
to remove the chain you could just cut it off using a grinder or something similar.
or
you can just simply grind off the flared pin heads on a link and push them out using the chain tool.

na no chain tool have seen them abouts tho, got an angle grinder not a problem cheers again. took the front sprocket off today and it doesn't look like its had much wear and all the teeth are at same angles and size, no indent where chain has run either....but i neglected to look which way the teeth pointed, i assume they are slightly facing forward when i put it back on (its a bit dirty so if there is a direction arrow under there i apologize)

im not entirely sure,i think the front sprocket can be put on either way unless there is a noticeable mark to say otherwise!!!!
give it a quick clean and check!
the teeth shouldnt be facing any way other than straight out...i think
im sure someone will know for definate.........the bike is a way in the workshop(22miles away)so i can't quickly check for you sorry!!!!

not a prob thiats my problem also been stripped over winter at my inlaws 8 miles away

They shouldn't apear pointed either way, if the look directional the sprocket is worn.
