Oil coming from front cylinder head

Post by freeserve »

After throwing the loom over my bike I decided to see if I could get oil pressure. Happy days after just 10 seconds or so the oil light went off. However oil was pouring from the front cylinder head gasket. Any ideas? When I rebuilt the engine i used new gaskets all round but should I have used new engine bolts?

Sounds like you might have the valve cover gasket on there incorrectly.

how odd

do you mean the metal head gasket or the rocker box rubber gasket?

where was the oil coming from?

My mistake. I thought you were talking about the valve cover gasket. Did you check the heads and block for warpage?

thats not good then.

from the post i take it you disassembled the bike?

have you done headgaskets before?

i assume you used a new head-gasket, cleaned it all properly and checked for warpage? I cant see warpage being so bad it pours oil out though.

correct head gaskets?

is the head actually on flush? you havent got it caught up in any locating doweles or anything have you?

It's the first time I have rebuilt the engine, the engine is in unknown condition as I purchased it without heads. I followed the Haynes manual to the T but it's something massively wrong as oil is absolutely pouring out. Will check everything over the coming week so will update when I can.

hmm, you put different heads on it?

did you check for warpage?

if its warped must be massive if oil is leaking out like you say.

gotta be a gap in it, correct head-gasket?

dowels in properly etc?

looks like its going to have to come apart.

obvious stuff first like you torqued it up correctly, gaskets correct and orientated properly etc
