Nc30 alternator rotor

Post by Tazzer1993 »

Hi all. It would appear that the alternator rotor on my nc30 is tighter than a nuns chuff. I bought the correct tool and all that happened was a stripped thread and a lot of swearing. What can be done about this rather aggravating issue?

Howdo- you've stripped the threads on the tapered bit on the crank? You are buggered I reckon?

You need a proper bearing puller that grabs the rotor from 3 points

Nope. It has a thread on the rotor itself so you can wind the puller in amd it then pulls the rotor off in the process. Or in this case, strips the thread without the rotor budging a mil.

what tool did you use? the correct tool is a long bolt that you screw in.

m20 x 1.5 i think off hand, maybe m20 x 1.25.

what thread did you strip? the one inside the flywheel what the puller goes onto?

might not be the end of the world as you can use a tradiational 3 prong puller to get it off

A rotor puller bought from Mr Oldfield. Yeah. That cane out in one nice long twirl. It happened at full strain. A rather loud crack and then I could just pull the puller out. It was very neatly removed but, the rotor was still there and very much still attached

The bearing puller snapped... I am now even more unhappy.

Had this very same problem a couple of months ago.
The flywheel was fucked you can't get a three claw puller on it,
So i used an angle grinder with a thin disc to cut through the face of the flywheel, leaving the centre with a triangle shape,
You can then use a three claw puller to remove the remains.

Seems a bit destructive. Isn't there a way to get the damn thing off without destroying it? Would rather not have to buy a new one if I don't have to.

you guys are doing it the correct way?

remove the 14mm bolt in the middle to expose the larger bolt hole for the biigger bolt.. not really a puller as it just pushes it off the shaft.

tighten it up until there is some torque on it, helps to hit the head of the bolt with a hammer and it will pop off, no need to hit it like thor either, just some gentle taps, should it not budge toqrue the bolt a little more and repeat.

Tried that. Just pulled the thread out in one nice long twirl
