Some lovely roads around Benson, regularly take the 600RR out that way!

Not at the moment they aren't lovely! I don't even like driving my car round them currently....

Re: Dan's Track Bike NC30
Well, I guess you could call it progress:

Hi-res: http://i.imgur.com/htA958c.jpg
Bike bench almost built. Just got to wait until it's dry at the weekend, then take it outside and give it a couple of coats of tough varnish to stop it soaking up oil etc. Hopefully have the garage cleared by the end of the weekend, and the frame of an NC30 strapped to the bench!
Although at some point I'll have to halt it all as I'll be using the bench to do an engine change on my mate's Thundercat.

Re: Dan's Track Bike NC30
New oil + filter has arrived, as well as new spark plugs. I took the camshaft covers off today and measured the valve clearances, they're a bit wonkier than I would have liked:

I might have to look at measuring the shims in the .20 on 4 and .10 on 3, maybe they could be swapped - I can't find out until I get a new battery for my cheap digital verniers.
Took the sump off, no metal thankfully, but a bit of sludge. Previous gasket seems to mainly have just been silicone >.<. When I took the sump off, the oil strainer fell out, is that meant to clip on? Or does it just sit in the sump inside it's tabs on the sump?
Hopefully start progressing with it soon, new rads to be ordered this weekend and hoses too. Once valve clearances are done, will swap the oil filter, fill her with oil and fit new plugs. I'm not going to strip/paint the engine, but once the cases and sump are back on I'll degrease it.
Progress will be slow for a while now, practically every weekend is busy for the next 5 weeks with weddings, birthdays and so on

The oil strainer is supposed to remain attached to the pickup tube.

Thought so, balls, need to investigate why that isn't the case then, doesn't appear to be a clip on it :/

Re: Dan's Track Bike NC30
Looking at the parts diagram, there is no clamp or bolt to hold the strainer on. It appears to be a friction fitting with the gasket. Perhaps you just need a new gasket...
