NC30 alternator wiring

Post by Tazzer1993 »

Hi all. My alternator had bit the dust in quite a catastrophic way so I bought a new one from Electrex. The only problem is that the connectors were not attached to the wires. So, how do I go about making sure I have the wires round the correct way considering that all three are yellow?

I don't think it matters. The voltage coming off the alternator is going to be AC. It goes to the regulator/rectifier that changes it to DC (rectifies) at 14-ish volts (regulates).

Of course I could be totally wrong. ;)

Well, the last time I had to sort the wiring on the alternator she threw a fit and decided to set fire to her wires. I swapped one and that solved the problem until the alternator packed up all together. And it took my reg/rec out in the process. As it is my only form of transport I need to get her fixed sharpish. Running without a functioning alternator or reg/rec feels like I'm breaking every feeling of mechanical sympathy known to man.

Ah ok. There is a serious amount of wiring witchcraft going on too. I can remove two fuses and nothing as affected at all. Everything still works. What's that all about? Seems to be a touch more than your standard electrical gremlins.

If the engine runs and the indicators function without the fuses fitted then you need to start at the fuse box and check the wiring. Sounds like the whole wiring system needs inspecting given the number of problems you have experienced.

Cdelva. As good as that sounds, I don't even want to think about how much the postage would be from Australia to England. Thanks for the offer though. All my bikes have had electrical problems at one point or another. Magg, perhaps a new loom would be better?
