Re: NC30 engine problems
I pulled the clutch as the basket was notably "wobbly"
Is there any movement on the shaft ?

Re: NC30 engine problems
No fore/aft play at all. The play is definitely the outer basket "wobbling" on the shaft (or more specifically the oil pump drive sleeve) due to wear on the plain bearing. The gearbox shaft bearing is fine. The bearing is within Honda spec though I would normally want to change it. However, it is not listed as a part so the only way to sort it would be a new basket (no longer available). The clutch was quiet and working fine when I used it to get the bike up my tilting trailer so I am not too concerned.

Re: NC30 engine problems
Today was very satisfying as the bike fired up straight away and and now revs cleanly and sounds lovely :-) Apart from the engine, there have been loads to do the replacement forks have been rebuilt with new seals. The binding brakes (front and rear) were sorted with new seals all around. Several damaged wiring connectors have been replaced. The rear hub and torque arm were well seized though freed off without too much trouble. Rear suspension linkages regreased though were in good condition. Its a little frustrating that the bike looks the same as it did before I started work but I have deliberately avoided tarting it up as it will be for riding....that is if she ever gets around to sorting her test :-) Looks like I can now put the bodywork back now!
