Hello

I bought the bike in 2009, never changed the fork oil, so I guess now would be the right time :).
any special tips before I start? I already did it on my 400 bandit and 300 ninja, these were super easy (open, empty, fill, close).
it's the same on the N30?
what oil grade should I use, it's a track only bike and I'm 62 kg

They would probably benefit from a complete refresh by now stripped new seals fresh oil etc and if standard internals a word with rick Oliver about his spring kit which includes clear instructions fluid and a accurate method of filling setting the air gap so both legs are the same .
Old fork oil is putrid stuff it works hard and ends up frothed and stinking like cat/fox piss a full strip down and clean out will revitalise them.

The bushes also wear quick time if oil is not changed so a full overhaul would be a good idea..with a rick o spring kit it will transform the front end..well worth doing

Ive taken a few sets of forks apart and the old oil is nasty stuff. id recommend a rebuild to anyone and i would also highly recommend ricks fork spring kit, it makes such a difference to the front end.

Hi, if you don't want to rebuild them let them drain and give them a good wash out with some petrol or something, let them drain really well, I usual put a bit of fresh oil in pump a few times an drain that out too. Think I used 10wt oil when I did mine.

yes use 10w oil.

if you dont flush them out well you might have a bit of remaining oil in there so set the level by air-gap.

10wt is the oil you need for the forks, the quantity and measuring directions are in the service book in the docuement libaray

easy stuff !
it's very a simple system don't worry about that, start release the top nut while your fork is still on yoke.
leave forke tubes, and release the bottom nuts (behind wheel axle), then pull, pull and pull again in order to separate both parts...

Hi there

tl;dr - should I attempt to overhaul/replace forks and rear shock or can you recommend a service?

(I looked for an appropriate thread but couldn't find one)

So after standing for 10+ years I'm close to getting my NC back on the road, after covering off some of the more pressing and straightforward items I will soon need to address the forks and rear shock

I'm pretty capable with a bag of spanners but my problem is that I don't have a lot of time or a workshop - the bike's in the garden and although I have a paddock stand I don't have a lot of options with hoists and wooden boxes

So, should I try myself or take it in (I live in SE London and I'm OK with paying for a reasonable value service)?
