NC29 Start issue

Post by Enzo9151 »

Good day everyone.

A while back i picked up a cbr 400 the nc29 L model.
The bike was in boxes and engine was open so after like 3 yeara i finly have the bike alltogether.

The bike is perfect in every way except it doesnt start lol.

Last night i removed the fuel pump system and run off a gravity feed. The bike miraculously started after a lot of turning of the engine.

After majot excitment and my soulf has finished rejoicing i hastely grabed my fone to videotape my success.

I switched the lights on. The engine gave a quick dip and carried on idling for 4 seconds then died. After that no joy

I switched the lights off and i got the bike started again.
Problem was i had to keep tge throttle open at 100% then the bike idles as per normal. As soon as i let go the engine died. I did this about 3times then the battery was flat so i took it out for a charge.

This morning absolutely nothing worked except the starter, fuel cap and some lights on the dash.

Lots if engine turning two flat batteries and a 5L topup the bike is still acting like a 3 year old spoilt child having a fit.

The bike just goes prr prr prrr prr prrrrrrr prr prr prrr. Sometimes it backfires like an Abrhams tank.

After some fillding i tried to get the fuel pump on it didnt work. I replaced the fuel pump stil didnt work. I got new fuel then it was better but still didnt work.

What i dont get is how it can work 100% perfectly then just stop working. Like when your girlfriend is mad at you and you have no frikin clue why. This is where i am.

Anyone have advice on this cause im completely out of ideas. All the local guys here also dont know whats up.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

I take it the carbs are clean as a whistle? Is the alternator and reg/rec all working as it should?

Yes carbs are new. I have thought the alternator/stator might be messing around but the bike has refused to start again so im unable to determine if the system is charging again.

Also i have dough around with a tester in the circuitrt and found that the fuel pump wires do not have any power on them. Upon further inspection i found the fuel cut off relay void from the entire system. The wires have been tampered with previously by what seemed like a shoddy backyard mechanic. so the wire diagrams are useless to me at this stage.

I thought of having a manual flip switch that will activate the fuel pump tgerefore delivering fuel to the carbs but im not sure if this will flood the engine. Mechanical componetns are where my strentghs are. Im not very good with wires.

Also i did check the breather hose of the carba before thw initial start. If i did blow into them i could hear airflow going through. Now after the fuel has been added i did the same and the pressure was high and there was no flow. I figured this was due to the floats being full therfore restricting any flow of liquid.

Thats what i have so far

I found the problem. Fuel lines were dirty as hell.

Will post a photo soon.
