GK76 SP carbs, TPS and air box sensor
I pick up a partially restored GK76 that was advertised on here. I've not heard the bike running, but the guy said he had done all the o rings on the carb, but was struggling to get it running correctly.
The bike is non Sp, but someone has fitted SP carbs, loom and Cdi. I've taken the SP carbs to bits to have a look and a couple of things turned up. 1- all the gaskets and o rings are green, so it looks like they have been renewed, although I found one o ring which hadn't been done, but I had some spare, so I've renewed that now. 2- The plastic carb slide/guide (not sure of the correct name) where from a set of non SP carbs, so they restricted the carb bore. Luckily he still had the SP ones in a box so they have been put back in. I hope these where just put in by mistake.
I've now set the float heights to 20mm, given them a clean and checked all the jets are clear. I have a couple of questions though.
TPS
The TPS has been replaced so I want to make sure this is set up correctly. I've read this article http://forums.banditalley.net/index.php?topic=3447.0 which is fine, but does anyone know which of the 3 wires I should be measuring the resistance across?
Air box sensor
I've read the SP should have an air box sensor. I'm not sure if I have this fitted. There is a something sat on the top of the air box that looks like it should be connected to the carbs maybe. Does anyone have a picture of this for me to compare.
Thirdly
On the top of each carb there looks to be a plastic breather, next to one of the bolts holding the lid on. On one of the spare sets of carbs I have, it has a bung capping these off, is that correct?
Thanks for your help.
Christian.

One other question. There is a small diameter pipe coming from one of the inlet rubber manifolds. Where does this connect to?

Re: GK76 SP carbs, TPS and air box sensor
Are not the "vents" on the carb tops used for carb syncing.
They should have rubber caps fitted .
The small bore tube from the inlet manifold is the operating pipe for the vacuum fuel tap.
If you put up a link to which bike it is from a members posts......folk will pick the bones from that thread and be able to help better.
I can vaguely remember it from about 2/3 months back.
I think it got a set of Litek Blair's seals in the carbs.

Re: GK76 SP carbs, TPS and air box sensor
Hi,
Tps sensor is a small black box on the top of the air box that has a connection from the loom and vacuum pipes to the carbs, it will open and vent the floats bowls to the air box at a set rpm.
The pipe from the manifold is to switch the fuel tap on and off.
The connection on the top of the carb should have a bung, they are vacuum take offs for connecting vacuum gauges when balancing the cards, would be worth getting this done AFTER you get the bike running.
When you get it back together use the prime setting at the tap to fill the carbs back up, dont leave it on after though in case the floats leak.

That airbox sensor is a plastic box about 1-1 1/2 " long and and an oblong shape with pipes....it clips into 2X lugs on top
of the box..
This is from what I recall of seeing a pic somewhere a long time ago when researching my build (non SP) so not a lot of other info I,m afraid.

Re: GK76 SP carbs, TPS and air box sensor
Sorry forgot the tps test.
As far as i know Suzi have never supplied the actual readings for the tps test but you should be able to get some settings using the % from the bandit site.
If you measure between the wires (ohms) you will get two differing results, if you open the throttle they will swap around, as far as i can remember they only give two measurements, if you connect the two plus wires you get no reading.

This is the bike I have. I haven't tried easy start yet. The bike will fire, but not start.
I'm using a remote fuel tank, so I've blocked off the vacuum pipe for now. I've put the rubber bungs back on and connected the air box sensor to the carbs as well.

Re: GK76 SP carbs, TPS and air box sensor
So you might hit a major problem in that if the sp parts are from pre 93 and your bike is post 93, or other way around it will never run as the starter clutch/trigger are different, in fact you still need to check part numbers as the sp may have a completely different starter clutch to the same year non sp.

Re: GK76 SP carbs, TPS and air box sensor
^ VVS;
Going from the linked thread re. the bike 's history.
I believe that it used to run on the current carbs but failed to idle at sub 2K rpm.
When good known carbs were substituted ,starting and idle were restored.
The PO will have sold it with the "non functioning" carbs.
Do you think that the TPS sensor in the fitted carbs is incompatable with the ignition components ?
Edited for clarity.
