To commute on the nc30 or not is the question.

In your experience guys, how hot is too hot on the temp gauge? When will it overheat? Cooling system is stock to my knowledge.

As soon as mine used to get closer to the red mark than the middle of the gauge was when I started to get worried, had the coolant boiling in the overflow bottle before but that's getting silly close to doing real damage.

some add a switch so can turn the fan on *before* the needle heads well over to the RHS - might be worth doing.

used to find mine getting very hot around town in the summer, not good

providing the lower rad isnt filled with crap so the fan can work when your not moving i dont think youll have a problem, many people seem to forget these bikes were made for the Japanese market, summers there are 30+ everyday with a lot more traffic too and they cope ok.

just with old bike make sure everythings ok, coolant is ok and full, all seals are ok and rad isnt full of crap

I wonder if my gauge is giving me inaccurate temperatures. It was on the red line today whilst stationary in traffic, and the bike did not feel anywhere near as hot as yesterday.

Clean the earth on the gauge, that might be giving you false readings.
