RVF Sprocket Interchangeability?

Post by SPOONDIDDLY »

G’day Guys,

I have tried searching but I can’t find anything that helps.

I am looking at changing the chain and sprockets on my NC35 as the chain has stretched and there are obvious tight spots, making it impossible to get correct and even chain tension.

What I was wondering is what is how interchangeable are sprockets between bikes? Will any sprocket fit any bike or does the NC30/35 use specially designed sprockets for their particular hub stud pattern?

Does the front sprocket use a standard sized spline?

The reason that I ask is that RVF specific parts in Australia are few and far between. I have found unknown brand/quality sprockets for more than I would care to spend on them whereas I can order brand name gear from the UK, but it will take a while to get here and the price doubles due to postage.

What I’d like to do is walk into my local bike shop and ask for a 14t front and 40t rear sprocket from an R6 (for example) and have a wealth of different brands, colours etc. to choose from knowing that they all fit perfectly as there is far more aftermarket support for more modern/mainstream bikes.

Any information that you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

Front sprockets aren't hard to get and many interchange (see links below).

The rear are the hard ones. Depending if you want 525 or 520 (easier for 525). The 525 is interchangeable with the 90-93 NC30 (and maybe more), the RC30 & RC45.

Yeah that looks like what I'll have to do.

Was hoping that the sprockets might be interchangeable with a later bike that's more common in Australia but no dice.

Thanks for your help guys.

No other interchangeable not already mentioned.

Have you spoken to http://www.chaingangchainsandsprockets.com.au/? I was going to have them make me a custom 530-pitch RC30 rear sprocket in 2009 or so (and ship to the UK), but then they ceased operations. I heard later that they're back up and running, though. Price looked reasonable at the time!

Aren't NC35 and NC30 sprockets the same fitment? If so, Renthals 520 conversion sprockets for the VFR400 are used on other more common bikes.

The front sprocket is the same as the 2013 CBR500R/F & 2013 CB500X - http://imgur.com/rnYnngk

The rear sprocket is the same as a 2011-2012 CBR250R - http://imgur.com/G0QkVPp

Check my pictures and see the descriptions on the package labels.

No problem. Only realized this after having some shipped to Canada from GF Racing. I know for next time though!

Rear sprockets (and maybe front) are same (NC35 and NC30). However, rear is not same as CBR250R. I guess if you could get some shims/sleeves that are the right size it would work.

NC30/35

CBR250R

You could get a 10mm OD sleeve and then very carefully drill out the ID to 8mm and then cut to length for each hole in the sprocket. Seems like a PITA, but then again if you can easily get CBR250R sprockets for a good price it might not be such a bad idea.

Also, I think that label is incorrect on that Renthal sprocket. I have that same sprocket on my NC35 and it has 8mm holes as far as I remember.
