Headstock bearing and race grease....which grease?

Post by Cal Walker » Fri May 29, 2015 9:02 pm

Hi guys,

Just one quick one, just doing a full headstock bearing and race change on my NC. Which is the correct grease to use when I re-assemble it? When I pulled it apart theirs red grease been used, is that the rubber type grease? Does this need to be the grease used for when I have to re-grease it up again?

Sorry for the noob question fellas!

Cheers.

Cal

I;d use a nice lithium grease or a molybdenum number - the service manual in the downloads will tell you what Honda reckon :)

The red stuff is waterproof grease.

+1
The black moly stuff
BRS Racing for up to date bike build and race results.
TT Zero for the electric Superbike build.
DM104 for the road race team.

Well you learn something new every day.

I use bucketfulls of grease and boxes of grease cartridges weekly.

The colour of the grease is often irrelevant, its just from different manufacturers, except of the case of Moly grease where it is nearly always black.

Red rubber grease is also an exception... I have never seen blue, red rubber grease.

Cheers for all the feedback fellas,

Gone for the lith-moly stuff (which is black! haha) Just spent all morning getting the old races out the head and driving the new ones in

Regards.

A little late, but I use the Mobile1 full synthetic stuff...

Molly grease is great stuff, but it's a bit messy!
