fuel tank tap. difference between UK and jap import?
hello
bike is running rough. keeps stopping after 5 miles or so.
so far i have checked...
the tank breather - all OK
filters in fuel tank - the ones that allow the switching between normal and reserve. all OK
cleaned carbs - all OK
the fuel tap - seemed OK, diaphragms all good. BUT. forgot if the breather should point up (to tank, or down). I put it back facing down and it now drips fuel a little. ALSO i have no spring as per picture. mine is a '93 jap import. does anyone know if there is a difference between these and UK spec?
the vacuum hose - it was a little split / splayed at the tap end, trimmed that off, but it's looking a little kinky at the carb end. new one on the way.
thanks
fred

and this time with the piccie thanks to akhara...

so, should i have one of them there springs?
Assuming it goes between the cap on the RHS and the diaphragm on the middle plate?
And the round breather on the middle plate. pointing up or down?
thanks all in advance.

The spring would be to close the tap when the engine is off.
A kink in the vacuum pipe will starve the carbs of fuel.

The taps are all the same,
And yes it sounds like the vac hose is at fault.

No fuel should come out of the vent tube unless there is a diaphragm fault. No spring means fuel could flow when engine is stopped or little fuel flows when engine running, would just depend on where the uncontrolled diaphragm decided to sit. Vacuum tube goes between fuel tap and inlet manifold, not carby.

Re: fuel tank tap. difference between UK and jap import?
thanks all.
i suspected it was the vaccuum hose, will let you know how it goes once the new one arrives and is fitted.
any clues on a supplier for those springs?
also the breather, pointing up, down or sideways (front or back).
as always, very helpful stuff.
cheers

I think you'll need to go to a spring supplier or buy a tap rebuild kit. The current part number is 16953-MBZ-B51 and it's about £36.

Fits plenty of different models, but check if you did decide to order. I'm pretty sure the taps are the same for the 30/35.
