NC24 Removing main jet needle from slide

Post by Johannes »

Sending a slide with torn diaphragm off to NRP for repair.

The issue is that the phillips screw in the top of the slider (through the hex aperture) only turns about 1/8th of a turn anticlockwise. Then it stiffens. I don't want to use brute force at this stage in case there is a technique.

Does the needle retainer released by continued anticlockwise turning of the phillips screw?

The Haynes manual for the NC30 carbs shows the retainer having a thread. No sure if same on an NC24?

Any experience out there?

you turn it like 1/8th of a turn the it pops up, if you push the needle from the bottom it will help push it up.

they only turn and lock in place, dont force it at all else youll snap it and ruin it.

poor picture but they look like this, kind of like a square that fits into a recess

Mmm. Still struggling.

On turning the cross headed screw accessible thro the hex aperture anticlockwise (it moves about 1/8th turn quite freely) the needle retainer disc (with the hex aperture) turns as well. Does the needle retainer disc need to be held as the screw is turned or can it all move together?

Couldn't remove needle retainer. So sent slide with needle & diapragm to NRP for replacement of diapragm.

FYI. slide fits nicely into a cut off of 32mm solvent weld waste pipe. Bit of pvc insulation tape around slide under diapragm and over end of solvent weld pipe to retain slide inside pipe.

Carefully, double packed and sent off.

thats it, all you do is turn it 8th of a turn and its loose.

you dont need to hold anything, the whole thing moves, sometimes they are a tight fit so if you push the needle from the other end it will push it out.

it looks similar to this.
