hi all, been plagued lately by my exhaust fookin rattling

..annoying to say the least.i took it off a few months ago to clean it and other stuff, the gaskets were all in very good condition so didn't change them(if it would've blown when started I would've changed them, but no leaks at all from any of joins)between 3-6k it was resonating but I thought it was the heat shield touching the rear pipes, but taken that of and its still doing it!!,the system is all tight with no leaks from any of the manifold/joins..anyone else hads this problem, and do you think taking it of and getting new gaskets would sort it?cheers.

The link pipe from the collector up to the silencer has a perforated tubing liner inside it which acts as an absorption type baffle - it is only spot welded in place and if/when the welds break, there`s your rattle...
I have the same problem on my RC30 - very annoying as it`s totally inaccessible and impossible to repair and good used stock RC exhausts are pretty rare and change hands for a small fortune.

Rick, when you say un repairable what's stopping the repair,
Surely if its steel it can be fixed.

You can't get to it without cutting off the end can.

Are you sure the header joints under the engine aren't going a bit grotty? Mine rattled, and it turned out they looked reasonable, but the joints were rotted to buggery under the clamps!

no speedy they are tip top chap, but today I took the system of and noticed a crack around one of the welds that joins the 2 pipes from the front 2 cylinders!!,but I don't know what system it is?(and cant upload pics)took it to mate who welds he rekons its titainium!!its not its a goldy colour and I think its a yamamoto half system, but aren't they stainless??could be after one if anyone got a decent system going depending on the outcome of the welding.i hope it can be saved as its mint condition and didn't even blow from the crack, but the rattle/resonating was murder!!

If it is a Yamamoto system you have then yes its made of thin gauge stainless and are prone to cracking in the webbing at the pipe joints which may be the cause of the rattle resonance noise you describe l guess they are caused through stress as its unsprung I've had one repaired . Since then I've seen another I think on here that's also been repaired but with
bracing also to add strength to the joint. Wish I had got that done at time of repair every little helps as being an unsprung system and close fitting to the pro arm then I guess they are pretty stressed ?
I have a spare that came on another bike that the previous owner told me had been repaired by rcv4 a forum member might be worth firing him a pm maybe he can sort yours for you..

cheers dave, thanks for that chap, nice to know it can be repaired as it is really clean.and it has gone where you described it as well in the webbing and around one weld, hopefully can get repaired, but I have a standard cut system in the wings if needed, but would rather another yamamoto if it cant be fixed, cheers for replies chaps,

If it was a stock system, the join were the two cylinder pipes go into one pipe also has perforated pipe in them this had corroded on mine so took it out when I chopped the pipes about.
