Having difficulty popping seat - NC30

Post by crookzy1 » Sat Feb 21, 2015 1:36 pm

Hi all,

My seat has always been a tad tricky to unlock, but I always manage it. Today I can't unlock it at all, the key fits, the lock moves but if I go any further the key will snap. I have taken out all the screws in the rear faring and tried shifting both the fairing and the seat around to try from different positions but it hasn't worked.

Has anyone had this issue before, and if so how did you resolve it? A Honda mechanic looked at it and couldn't open it without taking it into the workshop, and before I pay £65/hour for labour I will give it a go myself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

That's the local Honda garage! But my local mechanics would also charge the same.

Thanks I shall give that a go when it's daylight.

I had this exact problem a couple of days ago...when you turn the key - is their resistance? Ie is it engaging the bit that pulls the lock? If so then obviously it is a stiff cable..my problem was that it wasn't hitting the bit that pulls the cable, so as per above had to pull on the cable - was hard but got it after 20min or so...if you can get your riders seat off it's easier too (tried this afterwards just in case it happens again)

Hi, yes, you can feel it move if you hold your hand on the seat whilst you turn it.

Finding it very tricky..I know exactly where to aim for but having no joy. May have to go for plan B. Doesn't help that I'm doing it via street light!

@Icemaestro how did you take the riders seat off?

Have you found the cable yet? Thinking no? It usually runs on top of the subframe in a guide thing?

Riders seat was 10mm socket on extension bar, with rear fairing bolts undone and pulling out slightly. I think I only had the left one bolted up anyway:-p which is the easier of the two to get to...

just look up the side of the bike where the reg/rec is and you will see the lock cable that goes from the key mechanism to the tag, try pulling it.

youll get it open, it wont take more than 10 mins without breaking anyway if you take your time and do it properly.

iether

1. lock isnt egnaging properly
2. cable is stretched
3. cable isnt seated proply so cant pull lock.

i had one where the cable had popped out of the guide holes, all i did was tug on the cable and it popped open.

Guys, thanks a lot for your help!

I managed to squeeze my hand through and tug on the cable which had fallen out and explains why it wasn't where I expected it to be. Pulled the cable and it opened the lock.

Now to fix the actual issue I was trying to fix......
