NC30 tachometer - test?

Hey all,

Bike is finally running smoothly, but my tachometer isn't. It doesn't move / barely flutters a mm. Haynes doesn't really tell me anything about testing these things, so just by going off the wiring diagram I can confirm:

13v at the black/brown terminal
continuity on the green/Yellow back to the CDI

I have read that the earth is often the culprit. Mine is secure but the screw is very corroded.

Thoughts? I bought the tacho of yahoo japan for not a lot of coin. Given my none existing Japanese skills there may have been something in the description about it not working and I never knew

Going to try and get hold of a good tacho, but I have a trackday in 5 days and parts of scarce in NZ, so if anyone has any ideas, that would be great!

dont suppose you have the auction text do you?

did the previous tacho work?

clean the earth up but could be a problem with the igntiion box too if tis not the taco..

The auction is long gone unfortunately!

It is my race bike so it's a bit of a bitsa. The previous tacho was working but it was on a different loom. Same CDI though. I have managed to buy another tacho locally so hopefully this should just work. If not then I'll have to get thinking!

Well I got it working but only after spending $150 on another tacho only to find out that the original one wasn't at fault! Grrr

Not entirely sure which thing was the solution - I think it was cleaning up the loom side of the earth but I did a few things so it might have been a combo!

Haha got to hate it when you do multiple things at once and then don't know which it was that did it! Though not so bad when it results in something fixed....

A follow on question to this, does anyone know of a good aftermarket tach solution that can fit in with the OEM clocks? Looking for one at the moment, and particularly curious on any required specs.
