600 Engines for 3TJ

Post by Mike Shelby »

Hi - I've been searching through lots of the forum but can't find the answers I need so I appologise in advance for asking something that's bound to have been covered somewhere . . .

Can anyone tell me which is the best 600 engine to put in a 3TJ?

I've read the Thundercat fits (although also read they are prone to a second gear issue?) and the FZR600R also fits - but will an earlier FZR600 fit? - and am I right in thinking they all will need mounting plates like the ones Kayla sells?
I know the earlier FZR600's have a plastic fuel tank cover so I'm assuming the airbox would maybe need modifying to allow use of the 3TJ tank.

One of my 400 engine sounds a bit rattley and burns quite a bit of oil (it's done around 54,000km) so was hoping to buy either a crashed FZR600 or an MOT failure complete and use all electrics, switch gear and engine etc and transfer it all to the 3TJ chassis.

Just need to know which one would be best and why?

Thanks

I have - but it doesn't mention using the earlier FZR600's - hence asking the question if it's possible to fit one :)

The TCat is the best engine, it has nikasil bores so less friction
The 600R or Foxeye is next but its also cheaper than the TCat so in terms of value it could be best.

The eariler 3HE engines aren't so suitable, they have a mounting point on the front of the gearbox wereas the 3TJ frame mounts on the engines head. The tank cover is steel like the 400 3en.

You need the engine, mounting plates, loom, foxeye cdi, carbs, down pipes, and an airbox to cut + shut with the 3tjs.

All of that :rocks:

It's cheaper/easier to buy a complete running 600 and rob what you need, then sell the rest on.
