NC24 Rear Shock, terrible idea??

Post by clubber122 » Thu Aug 28, 2014 9:48 pm

Hi guys

so i read on here that the NC24 rear shock measures 280mm hole to hole, ive been looking around for an alternative to having my standard shock refurbed or spending £600 on aftermarket, here is what ive come across http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PIT-BIKE-SHOC ... 5afeb3a7ee it says it measures 280 and is rated 1000lbs, would this work or is it a no go?

regards
Sean

At a guess a pitbike weighs a lot less so damping range might be way out probably worse than your old worn shock
A rebuild would be my preferred option unless some nc24 guys know of a shock from a newer Honda or other bike that works.

well thats my thinking also, but its rated to 1000lbs so thats why im unsure, trust me when i say nothing is worse than my current shock, it has ZERO dampening, its just a spring bouncing me around, so some dampening has gotta be better than none?

No need to spend 600 quid on something.

http://www.bitzforbikes.co.uk/Hagon_Mon ... 12-93.html

Hagon make a decent shock thats half the price quoted above that will meet everything you can throw at the bike, tyres and brakes and forks will give out way before that shock

i was actually in there today talking to Kev about my shocker options i didn't realise they had anything listed!
still though, i've a very tight budget with the second baby on the way and recently moving house so id rather spend £150 than £290 if it would do the same job? Kev pointed out that those shocks will have a lot of travel because they are meant for pit bikes, will this be an issue?

I've just looked at that listing and it says for "straight style swingarms" I would think that means a swing arm with NO shock linkages, ie one that bolts directly to the swing arm. I think most pit bikes have that type of system.
That won't work on a bike with a rising rate linkage set up as the damping and spring rates will be miles off.

Even if it was meant for a linkage system I wouldn't use it on a bike that's much heavier and can travel at 70 mph more than a pit bike!

once you pay the money plus postage and import taxes youlll be not too far off some somethign less than half as good.

my advice is save up for a while and get it when you can afford it.. better to buy once andbuy it right thatn have tobuy that and find out its crap (i dont expect it to be very good) or that it isnt upto your spec, youll be hard pressed to flog it on and still be in the same boat.

Ive ridden a hagon shocked 24 and it road great, should last as long as you keep the bike for

Best thing you can do.. ive been there many times with many bikes trying to get them done sooner and spending more than I need to do.
