NC30 Front brake light?

Post by Cal Walker »

Hi guys,

Just a quick slightly embarrassing question  , when you pull the front brake lever in, should the rear brake light come on?

My rear brake light doesn't come on at all when I grab the front brake?? Just don't know if brake light only runs off the rear brake(right foot).

Many thanks.......Cal

You have a switch at the front brake lever(if you look below the lever bracket
you will see 2 wires going onto 2 spade connectors)and the rear switch is on the right footpeg hanger.so yes, the brake light should come on when any of the 2 switches are opperated.hope that helps!

As above.
The switch is normally open and when you pull the leaver the switch clicks and closes making the circuit. If you are getting the click fron the switch i would check the connector on the RHS just above the clutch/timing cover - where the genny and oil pressure switch connectors are. :peace:

Make sure the two mini-spades are clipped onto the brake ligth switch and the switch is sitting properly. you can remove the switch and test it with a multimeter to make sure its opening and closing properly

Cheers for all the replies guys!

I did think it was a bit strange that every since I've had my NC30 that the brake light doesn't work with the front brake lever, I always trailed a bit of rear brake just to put the light on and stop me from being rear ended!

I'll go out in the garage tomorrow morning and have a gander. I'll let you know how I get on.

Regards.....Cal

Right just been out to the garage (got impatient!) removed the switch and its knackered! the little plunger that is supposed to moving in and out rattles around and the hole switch itself sounds like its full of little ball bearings when you shake it!

I'll put an ad in the wanted section and see if I can get a brand new second hand one.

Many thanks.....Cal

Another option is a Brake Banjo Bolt with a built-in switch for the Brake light.
Just Google 'banjo brake light switch', loads of types available, and most aftermarket stores/website will list them.
