CBR400RR Ignition fuse blowing constantly!
Guys my wiring on my bike is a complete mess for the rear lights/indicators!!
I've wired up a new reg/rectifier but have noticed that the thick green wire from the old rectifier had a bunch of wires spliced into it???!!

See the blue insulation tape?? Is that factory??

Looks like the tail lights and an indicator were wired into it? I've looked at the wiring diagram and I'm totally confused??
I'm picking the green wire supplies power to the rear lights but can someone help me out or show me photos of their wiring perhaps?...about 10cm from the reg/rec......
I can't tell if the crimping and splicing I've come across is OEM or not??
My right rear indicator won't go no matter what & Ive tested the bulb and its fine.

Re: CBR400RR (NC29) Wiring Issue
There should be only five wires to your reg, three yellow and a red and green. It looks like someone has spliced wires in perhaps for an earth. I think they have read the wiring disgram and just seen an earth went to there and copied it. Crimping and splicing is not OEM, bullet connectors are. The rear indicators if standard all plug into a set of connectors near the reg/rec its covered by a rubber boot

Sorry was editing mY post as you replied. No the blue stuff is added by someone else, perhaps if LED lights were fitted someone modded the wires.

Re: CBR400RR (NC29) Wiring Issue
Thanks mate. That's all I needed to know I guess?!
I'm gonna trace the indicator wiring all the way back to the relay and re-wire it correctly if I have to. I didn't think Mr Honda would have 3 or 4 different end points connecting up at the same point!!

Re: CBR400RR (NC29) Wiring Issue
Looking at your second picture the thin wire is wrong but the one taped up is the proper wire for the reg. There's also a chance the wires were burnt out, hence the crimping and renewed wire.

Re: CBR400RR (NC29) Wiring Issue
The plot thickens as I uncoil the insulation tape from the wiring loom...god darn it I think the crimping and blue tape IS OEM afterall. What a pain.

I've virtually unraveled the whole rear loom and for no result. I'm more bamboozled than I was initially??!!
I gave up and locked the garage and went inside admitting defeat. I don't know what to do....

Re: CBR400RR (NC29) Wiring Issue
While I stand to be corrected and have seen joins such as the first picture under other bikes looms. I still believe the regulater wires have been chopped at some point and the blue tape added, . Externally the only blue covering I have seen on the nc29 is on the outside of the wiring and is used as guide to where the wiring is clipped to the frame.
Someone here must of had a harness to bits and can confirm, either way?

Re: CBR400RR (NC29) Wiring Issue
Lol, I am corrected!
I suppose I was thinking externally I have never seen crimping/blue tape., just proper bullet connectors. What goes on in the loom is another matter, i suppose. But my regulator wires never had blue tape on the earth or that extra wire so i still think some mods have been done.
I'm glad someone else chipped in, it gets lonely here repyling sometimes.
