For me, the thing that stands out most is those discs. You will hate them. They are a particular type of EBC disc that is exceptionally rust prone. By that, I don't mean the carriers go a bit scabby, the rotors go orange all over within a few minutes of getting wet, and they get stuck to the pads. Look at the third pic and you can see an imprint of the pad on the surface of the disc. It doesn't affect the performance as best I have ever been able to tell, but if you get wet and park the bike, a few hours later it will sometimes need a good shove to free off the front wheel. In fact, on numerous occasions I've been out in the rain on those discs and the following day it has needed a lump of 4x2 banged on the caliper to free the pads off because the front wheel slide down the driveway! If you were to decide on this bike, I'd chuck them in a skip asap and replace with something else! Apparently the current EBC discs are infinitely better in this regard.
I'd certainly have not picked this up so thank you for pointing it out. Did you notice because of the imprint, or a specific design? All discs look pretty similar to me :D

I think I may chuck in a desperation offer because I am running out of patience and need a bike by the end of the month. I would take any advice given to me and buy/fix whatever needed doing.

Saw this one yesterday. Priced at £1500. The problems I could see were (hopefully) cosmetic damage to the front forks, cracks in one of the dust seals and the headlights seems to be misaligned. Upon further inspection the front fairings had a small gap so I'm assuming these are import fairings? I don't know how to tell if the fairings are original. Either that or the bike has taken a knock, judging by some of the scratches/cracks to the side. Paint peeling inside the fuel cap but presumably no biggy. Also some rust to the pipes.

It just passed MOT. Tires looked pretty healthy. 29k miles.

Here are some pics I took: http://share.pho.to/6ax1G

Again any help much appreciated :)
Thats a bitza... If i had to make an educated guess i'd say its had a front end smash at some point.. good enough to bend the forks.

It's a later model bike (paint scheme and rear shock has a remote resvoir) but it has 1989 front forks and calipers on it..

The 89 model front forks suck compared to the later forks so the only reason i can think of a downgrade is becuase they are cheap to buy and the oringal forks were bent after a crash.

Hold out and get the later model, but not a bitza it has better front forks and better rear-suspension.. it will save you money in the long run as the bike handles soo much better from the off and you can rebuild the rear-shock should it need it.

don't buy this bike. the front stay it out of alignment too causing the nosecone and stuff to be off-whack.. probably from a crash...

its just a bitza.. a decent one will turn up soon and it will exceed your expectations.. if you rush (and its tempting..) it often costs more than it needs to :)

keep posting em up and people will give you feedbacks.

As Roy Walker from catchphrase so often said.. it's good, but it's not the one, (in this case its a pos.. but still)

I see. Well again, thank you very much. I am glad I found this site!

My A2 test has been booked and unfortunately isn't for a while. However I'll still buy a bike if a bargain comes along, I'll just have to work out a way of getting it to my house.

Id hold off for a better bike tbh, there have been plenty of real bargains on ebay for 1000-1300 in the last few months, good genuine bikes with original bodywork too. Ignore the silly dealer prices they pull figures out of their arses and the bikes sit unsold for god knows how long.

Fairings on this original or not? http://share.pho.to/6gXbx#

I haven't viewed it yet. Asking price is £1400. Looks a bit cleaner than the ones I've seen though.

Its an 89 bike... not bad by any means but for that kind of money you can get a later one in original condition (later ones have better suspension) so less youll need to spend to get it riding good, the 89 suspension feels a bit soft these days.

Secondly, that is way overpriced for an NC24. £1300 would be top dollar for a very clean, low mileage example with original paint. People see the NC30's 'go' for silly money on ebay and assume their 24's are worth a similar amount. Personally I wouldn't pay more than £600 for that 24 as £1300ish would buy you a half decent NC30 if you're patient.

The 30 is a huge leap up from the 24 in terms of chassis, suspension and braking; and real world prices generally reflect that fact.
Thanks for the reply.

Really? I can't see any around that have that low mileage, MOT ready, good condition for a similar price. Maybe I am not looking in the right places.

I haven't even seen a (road-ready) NC30 for any cheaper than £1800. And that had 40k miles, way up north where I won't go.
Sounds like i bought the NC30 you was looking at haha. Was it in Northampton by chance?

Got this one for £1300.

It needs dust seals replaced (already knew this). My mate took it for a spin (I'm still on a CBT) and had no problems. When I fit the restrictor I will clean and balance the carbs with someone who knows how. Also planning to get some Seafoam which apparently works wonders.
