non starting fzr exup.. ive looked on the forum :-)
hi i didnt know if you could help me , ive just got myself a fzr 400 1989 exup(jap import). im having trouble starting the bike. the thing is it only starts with jump leads, ive tested the battery and it reads 12.4v the starter relay tests at 9.2v . it turns over without starting and then the battery soulds like it bubbles and the exup solenoid buzzes . i was thinking it the battery need more power to start the bike as with a jump. is the started replay on the way out or the starter motor , generator? or something ease. thanks eddie

Your bike needs a good battery capable of maintaining sufficient voltage to both the starter and the TCI unit to start.
You have already proved this by stating that it will start by using jumper leads from a good battery.
Replace the battery.
12.40 volts is only about 70% fully charged to begin with.
Check your r/r is actually recharging the battery once running.

hi guys thanks for the replays , i have now replaced the starter relay and voltage regulator / rectifier ,but now i have nothing what so ever. i think i may of fried something now...
all wired up .. battery still saying 12.4v i turn the key the exup spins ,oil and neutral lights light up , and when the starter button is pressed nothing.dead ..
i have looked at the fuses under the seat but all good ,is there a main fuse? if so where ?
any thoughts guys . why is there no power to the started motor now? or the starter rely not making noise .

Try shorting across the two big leads on the solenoid it could be a duff one.
If that works see if you get 12 volts at the small wire on the solenoid when you press the start button.

If the bike is an 1989 as stated in the first post = 3EN2.
There is no fuse in the starter solenoid; that must be first fitted on the later 3TJ series bikes.
I have ;
86 Genesis
87 SP2TK x 2
89 3EN2 x 2
89 600 3HE.
All have the original solenoid with no fuse fitted.
I am sure this; and the location and amperage of the fuses fitted was just discussed in the last month.

If it blows it will be a "refused solenoid"

We need a quote section on this forum;

That is an absolute classic Boris.
The parts manual lists the solenoid without fuse for the 3EN2.hunter wrote:Well you learn something new every day,

The red bolt on lead from the solenoid feeds the harness via the white plugs shown in the pics.

The parts number is clearly shown on the last pic indicating the genuine harness ..
