Which fzr 400 front end is this?
Hi all,
I'm new to the board. I bought a fzr 400 front end yesterday for my honda project. Now the front end needs a total rebuild.
The owner couldn't say for sure which model it is from. He thought it was a model from '91, that's why I come with the question. I know the RR SP version has adjustable preload on top and this front end doesn't.
The forks have 43 mm fork tubes, and I don't think preload is adjustable. I have attached two pictures.
I need new dust seals and oil seals to start with, and I don't know which ones to pick because I don't know from which model this front end is.:
yamaha FZR RR SP '91 - 93

or
yamaha FZR RR 93 - 94

Thanks in advance. I hope the pictures help.

FZR400RR 3TJ its the standard road version of the SP. The brake calipers are the same between the RR and SP
The RR seals are different from the SP.
The top jokes been butchered then

So is this the RR version and not the RR SP version?
The top yoke has been butchered yes, they made holes to put some handlebars on.

Nope those are the RR forks, I hope they weren't sold to you as SP ... Sp forks are rarer and fully adjustable for rebond and compression they're also cartridge whereas the RR are standard springs type.
3TJ forks are also quite short so measure your bike up and if it's taller from spindle to top yoke you could use early R6 RWU but the wheels spindles are different.

Re: Which fzr 400 front end is this?
Well he didn't really know what type of bike they came from. He was a 70 yr old farmer.. I got them for pretty much no money together with the rear wheel, that's why I bought them. They are slightly shorter than my stock shocks but they seem to be a lot firmer.
My stock shocks are 33mm forks so going to 43mm will be a huge difference! I'm not looking for getting real race type forks but just want to improve handling and suspension on my bike. The front end will be used for a honda cx 500.
Thanks for the help.

I'd say the CX will be heavier so you might find them a bit soft, hopefully the dropped top yoke will give you a bit more height. Remember if the front drops then the fork will be loaded up a bit more.

Yup its heavier but I don't think you can get a lot softer than the front suspension that I have now. I have some 15w oil here so I'll put that in. It should make it a bit heavier.
ps: if those are forks from the RR, I'm guessing from the 93-94 model?
Then I need these seals right? The seller isn't answering that's why I ask here. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pyramid-Parts-F ... ba&vxp=mtr

Probably - it's the same seal as the RWU 1998 R6
