New rear shock for a GK71B

Post by sky084 »

Hi there,
can anyone point me in the right direction for a new (aftermarket) shock for my 1985 GSXR400?

Cheers,
Rob.

I had a nightmare sourcing one, I couldn't find an after market off the shelf.
The Shock Factory will build you a new one for around £350.

I found with a few mm alteration on the swingarm a F4 CBR600 shock (eye to eye type) will go in but you might need to change the spring as they are rock hard on the gsxr linkage.

Something like this..

Am interested in the CBR600 shock replacement, my original shock's knackered.

Which part of the swingarm needs altering and do the shock bushes take the same diameter bolts as the original?

Does the CBR shock increase the ride height?

Any info gratefully appreciated.

I had the swingarm milled out by a few mm. All original bolts were reused.
This bit ..

The top went in without any alterations.
Ride height looks about the same.

The shocks side by side.

Thanks for info and the pictures.

What was the new spring rated at in the cbr shock?

Cheers.

No idea, what ever comes as standard.
It does feel firm and might need to be swapped but not ridden it yet.
