Plz help clutch problem

Hi all I've just been out on my nc30 and I've noticed when I'm in a high gear and wind the throttle on the clutch seems to slipping does this mean I need a new clutch . Is this a big job to do and how hard is . Will I just need some new friction plates thanks for any answers

Hi, do you know what oil your using? If its on car fully synth it may slip. Is there some free play on the lever?
I've never done the clutch on a vfr but its usually a simple ish job, drain oil, take off clutch case and take clutch apart and reassemble. you'll prob need a new gasket aswell. And you'll need the tool to undo the clutch nut too.
Have a look in the document library for the service manual.

Hi thanks for your reply the oil I'm using is castrol 10/40 motorcycle oil so I'm sure it's ok there the cable is adjusted to its limit so that's why I'm thinking it was clutch I will have a look at the Haynes manual thanks mark

Could be the cable, could be the plates, could be the springs, could be the oil. Seeing as you are using Castrol bike oil, that should rule that out. Cable can be adjusted at both ends if necessary, and it doesn't seem to take much adjusting to make a lot of difference. Failing that, you'll need to have the clutch out and the plates and springs measured to see if they are in spec or not.

slipping under load does seem to indiacte a worn clutch.

In reply to the next part of your question, how long is a piece of string?

If you have no tools and no mechanical experience then it will seem like a big job, if you've done clutches before and have good tools it won't be an issue.

Start by getting the service manual from the document library at the top of the page. You can see in there how to adjust the clutch cable although I don't think this will be your issue from the problems you describe but try it first as it is very easy to do.

Next.

You need a special tool to remove the clutch, a socket from Honda, it's listed in the service manual.

Get the clutch out and measure the plates / springs and friction plates, as well as the clutch cable.

check it in the manual against the specs and replace where needed
