Carb (Float Bowl Gasket) Identification
Hi,
I have what I believe to be a very simple question for the right person. Unfortunately, that is not me.
I am looking to reliably identify the model of Mikuni carbs that I have on my FZR400.
I need to do this to find replacement float bowl gaskets or maybe an entire carb rebuild kit. I have been beating my head against the wall trying to find a reliable part number to search, or source of replacement gaskets.
The pictures below are not from my actual carbs, but mine are identical in every way that I can see. Most importantly, the float bowls and gaskets follow the same shape.
The closest gasket that I can find is Part Number: 1FN-14147-00-00 I'm not sure if this is correct, see pic:

The above gasket looks like it generally has the correct shape, except for the corners shown here on the correct gasket:

Some other misc info that may be relevant:
=============> " 3FH 00
-The carbs say ====> T971 "
-I believe my bike is a 1988 but it may have parts from different bikes put together
-I'm in the USA
And finally, here are the pictures of what my carbs look like:

http://s1.postimg.org/uujqsm9vy/carb_3.jpg

I hate to introduce myself to the forum with an annoying question, but If you know the answer you may be able to save me a lot of time.
Thanks in advance,
John

Is this it ?

Blair is the man you want; he makes the kits that are ethanol proof .
1FN prefix on the one you linked is for FZ 750 circa 86.

Re: Carb (Float Bowl Gasket) Identification
Thank you very much. This looks like it's exactly what I need.
Now I just have to decide if I'm willing to put it all back together to ride these first few weeks of spring while waiting for my package from Thailand.
Also, thanks for the tip on the 1FN prefix, something simple like that can take a noob hours to discover.

You might want to copy and search by the part number (maybe not this time) on usa ebay, they tend to list some bits with the number so it's useful.
You could try FZR Online too ... it's a forum with lots of Yeeehaa's on it ...

Now that I know the part number I'm seeing several options online.
It is common for different Yamaha bikes to have the same general part number (14147-00) with the model's prefix (1WG) in front? That could definitely help searching for things.

Re: Carb (Float Bowl Gasket) Identification
The first part (1WG) refers to the model it was designed for.
The next (14147) refers to what the part is =float bowl gasket= so all float bowl gaskets are the same number.
The last part is for a revision/upgrade or colour difference.
Many parts have an earlier model prefix ;which shows how Yamaha used parts they were already producing in the design.
Some gearbox parts on the Fzr can be dated as far back as 1972 from the YDS7/YR5 ranges.

Re: Carb (Float Bowl Gasket) Identification
If you search for a part use the full number but sometimes it's supeceeded by another .... Partzilla are quite good for giving the other models that also use that part, so you can then broaden your search in ebay to a more common or later model bike.
