Cbr 400 NC29 Exhaust

Morning All

i have brought a replacement exhaust that i have seen fitted to another NC29, its a full stainless system with a round carbon can.

When fitting via the studs on the engine and the mount underneath the bike the can is way to close to the swingarm and also it is about an inch to low from the end can hanging bracket.... have had a fiddle about but im really really stumped !

Anyone had a similar issue?

Ok, first what make system and are you sure its a 29 and not a 23 system?

How does the can fit on, is it three bolt and if so is the adapter welded or bolted to the pipe? if bolted check see if you can move it further back up the pipe, an extra inch slid back will give more clearance at the arm. I have this problem if i remove my exhaust and forget to set the link pipe up correctly (half standard/Half stainless). If its welded, sorry dont know.

The system came from a 29 and was fitted no problem, is there any other way of telling?

its is a 3 bolt mounting system that is welded to the system so i cant move it i'm afraid

Could the bottom bracket be slightly bent back? Try a small spacer tween the brackets, not ideal but might help. Make sure its not too much or the pipe might catch the fairings.

Thanks for the replies guys, i will try and get some pics tonight, is there supposed to be a spacer on the bracket underneath the bike? This might be the problem, at the moment there is the mount which is part of the engine/frame and then just the flat metal part of the exhuast that the bolt goes through, should there be a spacer as well?

Not much really, a nut, bolt and centred on a rubber mount with your bracket held against the outer engine mount. Check the parts book for a better idea. As said above a photo may give a better idea.

I had a similar problem with my exhaust.

I bought a new ( 2nd hand can ) which was supposed to fit the 3 stud end of the pipe, but it didn't fit as the holes were way out. So I cut of the end off the exhaust and used a 3 bolt slip-on adapter.

The exhaust was fitted but the base of the can was now touching the swing arm so I undid the lower bottom exhaust bolt and put a 5mm shim in to push the exhaust out a bit more. This gave me a clearance of about 1-2mm which I was not too happy about as I figured with the frame/swing arm bending or the exhaust expanding it may catch, so I took the can off and basically a cut a section out of the base, as it flared out a bit at the bottom I flattened it level with the swing arm. now the clearance is around 10-15mm.

If that make any sense?

Try the shim method first. I didn't undo the exhaust from the engine block just pulled it out as far as I dared and slipped a large shim washer in.

hi im thinking a shim to bring it out will work but surely it should just fit? also the larger problem is the height and how fsr it is from the rear mount. here are a couple of pics
