fork spring orientation on an nc30 k series

Post by mentalist »

Hi, I'm after some info.
Just cleaned and drained my fork internals. the springs were fitted tighter coils down, but in the Hynes manual for the K series it says they should be fitted tighter coils up?? and all the other models are fitted with tighter coils down.
Is this just a mistake in the Hynes manual??

thanks in advance.

I've never quite got why it matters - though am sure there is a reason.

You'll be needing the docs section (up top) and get the service manual for it..then see what Honda says.

Cheers, but I've already checked and download the manual and it doesn't mention about the k series early forks with preload only.
Anyone know? ?

It won't be in the UK manual as the Uk never got K model bikes.

I would just follow the advice in the haynes manual.

I have a K model and the original springs came out with the 'tighter' coil at the bottom. My advice would be to throw the original springs in the bin and put a set of Rick Oliver's springs in. Excellent value and they transform the bike.

Wouldnt be the first time the haynes is wrong, afterall they had to get a grey bike to do the mods on, could have been fitted wrong in Japan.

I have K model forks knocking around somewhere, I believe they had the tighter coils in the bottom too.

If you cant repalce the forks for later type then fit Rick Os springs. I believe you can transfter them to later forks too if you ever upgrade all you will need is a different spacer.

The later forks offer more adjustment and are cartridge desgin.

Depends on how hard your pushing the bike but overhauling the front and rear suspsion on a K makes a lot of difference to the bike.
