The NC30 thread! - Back on track!

Well as many of you may know I have had My NC30 for quite some time and made it fairly individual.



I have a huge list of things that have been done to it or replaced in order to make it my special bike

I am currently in a situation where I have the bike all stripped down so its just a rolling chassis. This came about after a trackday back in August when I noticed that the exhaust was blowing.



I tried tightening the nuts which hold the rear part of the system on and managed to shear two of the studs. ( must be my awesome muscle power!!! )

This is the offending section


So to ease the replacement of the exhaust manifold I decided a winter strip down and clean and a few more choice parts were/are in order.

The plan is to -

Polish swingarm and frame
Fit new levers
Get new translogic dash working properly
Fit steering damper
Get set up properly on dyno maybe with a new cdi
Get out and ride it more next year!

As its all in bits at the moment I will be taking some pics and updating as I go.

iv only ever seen this bike in one piece once (and he stripped dit down the day after), i think this thread should be called OCD'ers anonymous!

you must really not enjoy ridding it mate

It takes time achieve perfection - and some chase after it for a lifetime - and what happens when its achieved?

So many questions!!

Anyway - this weekend I'll be sorting, cleaning and fiddling on the bike.

I have just purchased an almost brand new Ohlins steering damper for a great price off the 'bay. so will be offering that up to the bike and see how it fits. :D

I'll also be continuing with polishing my swingarm. I picked up a load of spares from an old forum member down in Gosport - which included a couple of good condition swingarms with great hubs (my current one is quite mashed up by previous owners) and that will be fitted. Pics coming soon

The swingarm takes quite a while to do but the end result should be worth it especially with the frame ending up being polished too.

I think I'll tidy up / arrage my garage better for the rebuild too, moving unnecessary items out the way so I'll end up with a dedicated VFR garage!!

good idea sorting out the garage first,when my accident bike came back to my garage i thoguht it was pretty tidy and spacious but since the bike has been taken apart i have little room to move never mind start putting it back together.

Ok so I started tidying the Garage ready for the rebuild.

I took a pic before I started and it got too dark when I finished but its looking alot tidier now with more room to work :D



In this pic is missing my mates Buell that I'm looking after for him while he is in Afghanistan.

Well the Garage now looks like this



I've been polishing my swingarm up - it started off looking like this



And after quite a bit of work I have got it looking not too bad. I stripped off the bits I didn't require - chain runner, hub, axle, disc and caliper bracket just leaving a bare swing arm.
I started off with 60 grade sand paper, then worked my way down through the finer stuff 80,120 240, then a bit of a jump onto some wet and dry - I'm still just trying it to see the quickest way of doing it and it is no where near finished - I also have a small dremel type tool to get inti the awkward places and some mops for the final finish. :D
