NC30 Half System fitting issue

Post by Luke86 »

First off, props to Tony (DM) for all the help he's given me, top lad :plus:

So a few months ago, i came by a half system, second hand in need of a bit of tlc, no distinguishing marks, so probably a generic jap one. It was a bit rough round the edges, but my stock system was blowing quite bad, and needed to go. I sent the half system off to the good man rcv4 (thanks for working your magic!), and it came back looking like the dogs danglies.

so today the exhaust was fitted, and i popped on my lovely new Tyga end can, and in short, it looks like dumbo's ear.

it looks like the final Y-section has at some point in its life been sawn off and then re-welded badly, by a blind man. The results is it's at angle veering away from the bike.

I think to fix it properly, will mean taking that section off and either replacing/re-welding, preferably with the bike on site so it can be offered up and checked whilst being repaired.

1. What are peoples thoughts on how to go about fixing it?
2. Can anyone recommend some one who could do the fix? I live in south west london, so local-ish would be ideal.

cheers gents

hi Luke, your system has not been chopped or modded in any way,and there wasnt any signs of crash damage so thats a bit of a puzzle, the only thing i can think is i could of had a short link pipe.

Hey man, that's interesting, and you could well be on to something there. Would have to be a very small link pipe, I'll see if I can find anything? Is it the kind of thing you could fabricate?

That would be the best option IMO

yeah, i think you're right Tony - i'm gonna follow that route up with chad, i had a comparison to some old pics with the old system, and that end can came further back just past the rear indicator, where as this one doesn't, so there's room for this to grow so to speak.

yes that needs a link pipe on it. or if its like the system I saw before then the matching original had a stubby link built into it.

A link pipe on its own wouldn't work as anything longer than 2 inches would stick the can out the back too far and would look just as ridiculous, plus a link pipe that short would also look odd. If anything id say the original can had a bent link pipe to it but if you really examine the system it looks clear to me that the Y piece is at a odd angle and with the welds not being uniform with the the rest of the system my money would be on it being rewelded on at some stage in its life.
