4dx will not start
hi all had a spill on the fzr a while ago,i have now thanks to you ace people on here got it all back together, however bike has been stood now for about 4 months or so,and i cannot get it to fireup.
the starter turns bike over beautifully with the nrw battery i have on it,i have pulled plug cap off put a plug in it and i have a good spark ,i have taken airbox top off and squirted easy start down inlets but nothing ,i can here and see pulleys working when i switch ignition on ,and can here fuel pump prime up,i can see fuel in filter next to pump ,but even after repeated presses of starter button bot h long ,and short ,and i cannot smell any fuel anywhere ,so i suspect it is a fuel problem,i don,t know if it should get hot but fuel pump is stone cold, any help or ideas would be brilliant as i am pulling out what little hair i have.mark.

Really you should clean the carbs but you can try without first.
OK take the air box right off so you get access to the carb mouths.
Fresh fuel in the fuel tank ( try a green fuel can full and slosh it around a bit)
I use carb cleaner but I guess easy start is OK. Lift the black carb slidesand spray into the carb do this for all 3.
Turn on the ignition and listen for the fuel pump clicking and the Exup making a weep weep noise. Flick the kill switch to off then on, you want the pump to slow and stop.
Put the choke on but no throttle, and thumb the starter. Keep the starter pressed you'll hear the engine turn it should pick up speed keep the starter down, occationally spray a bit of carb cleaner into the carbs as it turns. It should spin over faster and then start to fire but keep the starter button down. Now give it a very small throttle opening and if the revs rise it will run on the throttle.
Its not the most mechanically sympathetic thing, put some jump leads on the battery just give a bit extra.

Re: 4dx will not start
thanks evil will do as you suggest,if this fails can i take main pipe of that feeds carbs and then turn on ,and thumb starter to see if fuel spurts out?the pump sounds to be working ok but just to be sure,if there is a fuel pump relay also .do you know where it lives i would also check that,if what you suggests dosen,t work.
i get the weep weep noise, and can hear pump priming, but cannot smell fuel anywhere, its as if the engine is not getting any fuel, even if plugs were all duff or carbs totally blocked, if pump was feeding i would expect it to smell flooded or fill float bowlsand let fuel out overflows but no smell of fuel, would put new plugs in anyway once it is going, but need obviously to try as many options as i can before going any deeper,i have heard particularly race lads that they can be a bitch to start if stood for long periods of time is this true? regards mark.

Anything with 4 month old fuel in it can be a pig to start, have you tried unscrewing the float bowl drain screws to see if there is anything in them?

Re: 4dx will not start
If the pump ticks, slows and then stops its working. If all it does is tick and cut immediately there's no fuel ... Just check the fuel tap is on and the fuel pipe isn't kinked.
Ask me how I know !!!

Re: 4dx will not start
hi evil definatley no kinks in pipe, pump comes in and sounds like its priming goes on longer than couple of seconds think it is ok,as dosen,t stop immediatley, tap on bottom of tank in on position 6,o,clock as you look at it all connectors in place on the wire coming out which i would presume is for the electric fuel switch res/on,will take airbox of as soon as i can get in garage,by the way how do you know lol, regards mark.
