NC23 Aero won't spark

Post by Celis93 » Wed Jan 15, 2014 2:37 pm

Hello,

My name is Niels and i'm from the Netherlands.
I recently bought a CBR400 Aero (NC23), but it won't spark.

Actually, it does spark. But only 2 times.
It sparks one time when I push the starter button, and one time when releasing the button.

Pulse generator tested, readings are fine.
Will check the coils this week.

Any ideas on what this could be?

Thanks in advance!

Battery low - enough to crank the engine but not enough to power the coils.

Has it ever ran?

Check the clutch, side stand, neutral switches whatever it has as these have given those symptoms before on a gsxr 400 I had.
Kill switch too.

Have tried to jumpstart it with a car battery, didn't work..
It has not ran before, I bought it as a barnfind.

I'll check all switches, I don't believe it has a sidestand switch, though.

I'll keep you updated!
In the meantime, keep the ideas coming.

Thanks!

I've tested the ignition coils, but they gave bad readings.
In the Haynes manual they make difference between J/K or L/N/R models.

Are these ignition coils exchangeable ?
And are there coils from other models which I can use?

I have checked the following switches and one of the coils.

Clutch switch closed circuit: 30 ohm
Neutral switch closed circuit: 75 ohm
Primary coil: 3.3 ohm
Secondary with HT: no reading..

What do you think about these readings? I think they are a bit high for closed switches...?
I'll check the secondary coil without HT leads this week, just to make sure the HT leads aren't broken.

EDIT* Nvm, I didn't measured correct..

Coils are fine, primary is just 0,1 ohms out of range.
In my opinion, this doesn't explain why the bike doesn't spark.

Is it possible to check the pulse generator with a multimeter?
I've measured the resistance, and it matches the specifications.

Is it possible to use a multimeter and measure power fluctuations?
Same story to check the CDI for giving pulses to the coils?

Hopefully you guys know what I mean, since my English isn't great.
