Ultrasonic Carb Cleaning

Has anyone had their carbs ultrasonically cleaned? Although internally clean they look really mucky.

If anyone has gone down the ultrasonic route is there anyone they can recommend and how far do you have to strip the carbs before sending them off?

Yes I've done my own carbs and even a clean set of carbs can have a LOT of shite in them.
I stripped mine down to the basic bodies taking out all of the jets, floats, valves and any other brass bits and pipework etc.
If you send them to a carb refurbishment company they should do all this for you.
Use a well known firm though as its easy to cock it up and if the carbs aren't washed out after cleaning they can corrode.

Thanks I'm probably going to send them to harpers-ultrasonic I don't know if anyone has experience of using them. I Also take it that the Carbs will need setting up from scratch once they're back with me?

They're meant to be set up on return but if the bike is running well I would record every setting very carefully before sending them.
Actually if the bike is running well I would just give them a good external clean up!

I had mine ultrasonically cleaned after having so many problems with my old set that I wasn't taking any chances with my new ones.

I sent my carbs off to harpers-ultrasonic today. After speaking to Matt there it was clear he knew his ultrasonic onions and just as importantly was familiar with the v4 carbs.

Dobbslc - I also confirmed with him about the flushing/rinsing of the carbs after the treatment and can confirm that they are rinsed thoroughly throughout after the ultrasonic bath so thanks for the tip.

£105 for all four carbs to be stripped cleaned inside and out, rebuilt and sent back to me.

Despite the rinse etc, I would give them a spray with wd40 when you get them back. The aluminium is protected by a thin film of oxide and if the cleaning strips that off you'll quickly get puffy powderball of corrosion appearing.

I had a set of carbs ultrasonically cleaned and they a) were not rinsed correctly, and b) were not protected from the post-clean corrosion mentioned above and it ruined them.
