Carb Stripdown

Post by Hissing sid »

Morning All

Using cammo's excellent guide I've started my Xmas Project, strip, clean and rebuild of the carbs on my 1991 NC30
I recently put the OE exhaust and airflilter back on after the race can rotted away, SInce then shes carburatted like a pensioner on 40 Marlboros a day

front right carb
116 main jet
#35 Pilot Jet
4 hole emulsion tube
strange looking needle (see piccy)
2 extra holes in the slides! (see piccy)
Front Left carb same as Front Right carb

Rear Right carb
118 main jet
#35 Pilot jet
5 hole emulsion tube
same slides and needles as front carbs

Rear Left carb, same as Rear right carb

All4 pilot screws, 2 turns out

I'm guessing the 116f/118r main jet isnt too far off the mark, but unsure about the needle and slider?

Will I be best to get new ones from DS/RO, or move the circlip in the needle ?

regards
Neil B

Hmm adjustable needles and an extra hole in your slide.....

Not sure how that would affect it.

Is your intake and exhaust all standard?

Hmm, everything standard then it leads me to think that your adjustable needles don't suit the set-up.

Plus having an extra hole drilled in the slide isn't something I've seen before, but that should only improve or worsen engine pick-up speed not affect the mid-range as such.

I know when I fitted my FI needles they came with two set us. One for a standard set up bike which was 116 jets al around/needles/drilled slides and the other was 120 jets all around/needles/drilled slides for a more modified bike.

When I went to get it dynod I rang them to ask should I bring it needles in my pocket or fitted and was told the bike should run and shouldnt cause any damage if the needle heights are set the same (so make the FI the same size as the stock needle by putting the clip in the correct hole) and they can tailor it after.

HI and Merry Christmas everyone :-)

Bikemonkey has kindly sorted me out with a set of replacement slides which have only the one hole, opened upto 2.5mm I believe and 3 needles,
Reading from what you have put Royster, I would be OK to use my existing needles, setting them to the same height as the "stock" needles, or would I be better sourcing a 4th replacement needle?
The profile of my needles look rather strange to me, I would expect them to be a constant taper? this taper I suspect profiles the fuel/air ratio?
Regards

Definitely get hold of some standard or proven aftermarket needles.

I'd bin the ones that are in there...
